To efile; NOT email; returns, you have to have acceptable software which will format the data to IrS specifications. I was tempted once upon a time to write my own, and might could have, too, but it would have taken a whole bunch of time to do this. So I had to find a third party and use their software and send my returns for them to forward as a service bureau to IRS for about 4$ per return. IOW, IRS has us by the ... uh..... Let's just say we have to play by their rules, and about the only ballgame in town is one of the major software players; Taxwise, Drake, TaxAct, Lacerte to name a few. No, there is no connection between TaxACT (Second Story> ProSeries....the one everyone is talking about poor customer > service? Software) and ProSeries (part of Intuit). | Hi, I am new to the group. I am starting a tax preparation business this year, and I think this group could be helpful. I know there was a thread about reasonably priced software, but I have some questions. TaxAct is recommended by some, but isn't this ProSeries....the one everyone is talking about poor customer service? Someone else recommended ATX. Now this is a *little* more pricey. What reasons make it worth paying a little more? Has anyone tried WorldWide Web? Also, can someone explain why I need a service to help me email returns to the IRS? Can't I sign up with the IRS to do this myself? I hate to pay per return for such a service if I can do it myself. Thanks and I hope to have more substantive questions in the future!
