I agree, and that should pass muster at the IRS, but
shouldn't the deductable miles be the difference between
55*2 versus 55+return trip?

Only the portion of the 55-mile return trip between the job
and the farm. The portion from the farm to home is not
deductible. Because the trip is occasioned by the farm, I
would claim it on Schedule F, though a more conservative
approach would put it on Schedule A.

Some arguments here but I'd take it on Schedule F. There's
a place for auto expense including mileage.

It's not farm miles, but it would go on Form 2106.

The extra miles caused by the self-employment activity is
deductible. In your case 0, since you did not have to go out
of your way.

Default Mileage between 2 jobs

I know that commuting is not deductible, but travel between
2 jobs is (On Schedule A, right?)

In this case the commute is 55 miles to his place of
employment everyday. On the return trip, he stops and cares
for livestock he owns - Self employment. Can the 55 mile
return trip be deducted on Sch F? Or only if he itemizes?

Thanks
Linda
