But, information return, i.e., Forms W-2, 1099, 1098, etc., transcripts will. I recommend you ask for both, but you will need to make separate requests for the information. A member of my family recently wrote to one of the IRS campuses to ask for information returns transcripts. They arrived in the mail about 30 days later. IRS does not charge for providing transcripts but IRS does charge for providing a copy of a tax return. If you decide to ask for information returns transcripts ("IRPTRO" transcripts), specifically request copies of all information returns such as Forms W-2, 1099, 1098, and 5498. If one spouse is requesting information returns filed under both spouse's SSNs, it's important that the spouse making the request state that a joint return was filed for the year(s) needed (if in fact that's the case). | I am helping someone get information on taxes filed for her for last year. She needs to find out where her income on Schedule B and Schedule D came from. It's a complicated thing with a family member having helped her, but she now wants to get this information quietly. Will the information of where the income came from be included in a 4506-T transcript, or will only the total be listed. If she can't get the original names (banks, investment brokers, etc.), she will probably have to file a 4506 to get an exact copy of last year's return. Thanks.
