| I just bought TurboTax Deluxe 2004. I went through the Schedule C part and it never prompted me to list my new Assets. In the "Help" section it says there's an Assets Worksheet, but damned if I can find it. Has anyone else had this problem or know where the hell I can find the $%(#)[at][at] Assets worksheet? I was happy with the 2003 Turbotax. Wish they hadn't changed it. | I was wondering what operating system you used for installation. Just ordered a new computer with 'XP Pro' and I'm a bit hesitant to buy TurboTax ever since all the reports of the C-dilla Spyware thing, and reports that it prevented CD burning. I really liked their product and have used the 'Deluxe' and 'Premier' the last 3 years on my older computer (Windows98).Have heard problems with installation on XP. Did you encounter any problems? | You sure about this? Do the corresponding Turbotax 2003 and 2004 'IRA worksheet forms' (or whatever) show the amounts in the same or in the wrong boxes? Because that's something that should probably be screenshotted and send to them as a bug. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

Once you've filled in a > form, it stays filled in. shouldn't. If answering "Yes" to the question takes you down a path where numbers are provided via the interview process to be placed on relevant forms, then going back and answering "No" to the question should, logically, either remove the form or take you down the same path as before to eliminate previously entered numbers. Neither happened in this case. What also suprised me was that in going back throught the interview process this particular screen with this particular question never showed up again. I was forced to go and hunt it down using the pull down menu process. In any case, I can see people getting tripped up over this issue. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| Did a quick run-through of TurboTax Deluxe with preliminary numbers and seemed to hit a couple of bugs. 1) Using the interview process I answered Yes to the question if either of us (wife and I) contributed to a SEP IRA for 2004 and asked TT to maximize the amount. Later, I went back to that page of the interview (had to use the pull-down menu to get to it as it would never show up in the "normal" interview process again) and changed the answer to "No" at which point TT went on to the interview page concerning K-1's, etc. You'd think TT would then eliminate the SEP IRA contribution since you've answered "No" to the question regarding SEP IRA contributions and the program doesn't allow you to uncheck the "maximize" option (or I suppose, remove a previously-entered amount) but it doesn't; the SEP IRA deduction continues to appear on the face of the Form 1040 and all supporting schedules. In order to eliminate this deduction you have to either override it on the relevant Form(s) or go back to the interview, answer "Yes" to the question and then uncheck the maximize button. 2) In 1999 I converted a traditional IRA to a ROTH, and again in 2004. The 2004 conversion was fully taxable. I've used TT since the days of DOS, so TT "knows" all this and carries over the correct dollar figures. However, on the interview page where you're asked to "Enter 2003 Conversions" there's two entry boxes, one for any 2003 Taxable Conversions and one for 2003 Non Taxable Conversions. TT has provided the correct dollar figure, but has put the figure in the "Non Taxable" box instead of the "Taxable" box. Just a "heads up" for anyone that used TTDeluxe for preparing their returns.
