Default nol carryforward deduction

is the nol carryforward deduction a use it or lose it type thing? for
example, if a corporation forgot to take it one year and it is too
late to amend that year, can the corporation use what it should have
used in that prior year in a subsequent year in the twenty year
carryforward period?
