If anyone cares, I have managed to trace one source of this
spam to an ISP in Hong Kong. They have assured me that they
have identified and "warned" the responsible party. Not sure
how much confidence I have in all that, but hopefully this
problem will at least diminish a bit.

Addresses get harvested from many sources, and I'd guess
that Google is one great source. Also, out addresses are
likely in the address books of many folkes and their address
books get posted.

I use filters at my ISP to toss hundreds of messages each
day before they ever get to my PC. If I lose a few legit
messages in the process, well, the world will still go on.

I then further filter with Eudora on my PC. I filter most
messages into separate mailboxes and the crap usually ends
up in particular malboxes, so I just do a CTRL A on the
headers and delete the critters.

Indeed, filtering is one of the reasons I still use Eudora.
It's way to costly, in terms of my time, to redo the filters
in, say, Outlook or ... I started to write a VB program to
do the conversion, but it's not high on my list of things to
do right now. Don't know why MSFT doesn't come up with such
a tool?

And, FWIW, there are no "nj.comcast" addresses in any of my
address books.

Actually, the email address does imply that it comes from
someone in the newsgroup. MTW and I are both members of
several forums, but the only place I used the targeted email
address was here. Since I have no contact with any posters
outside of these forums, they most likely did not get my
email address elsewhere. (I am assuming that the to: and
From: addresses were harvested from one person's address
book.) Moreover, the other poster from whom it appeared to
come, (as I well know), in Washington state or thereabouts.
There are at least a couple of posters from Jersey.
Therefore, it is likely that one of them has become infected
by something.

I receive 50+ spam messages per day at the address I use for
USENET and forum posting, and many appear to contain
viruses. Thus, even though my own machine is heavily
filtered and firewalled, it doesn't surprise me that my
address has fallen into "play" out there. My apologies to
anyone who has been inconvenienced, but I am 99.9999999%
confident that the problem has not originated from my
equipment. Bummer.

Posting here won't do any good.
This needs to be reported to the folkes at comcast.net.

tracert 68.39.137.51

Goes for 15 hops, then times out for all subsequent hops.

The email address itself does not imply that the message
came from someone in the newsgroup.

Default Fellow Poster infected w/virus

If this is your ip: 0022042660.com
(pcp09682079pcs.clmntn01.nj.comcast.net [68.39.137.51]

you have been sending me virii for the last week using
variants of another poster's, (MTW's), email address.
Please take care of the problem.
