Yep. Thanks Shyster, Phil, Dick et. al. for your replies.> the Internal Revenue Code] to pay any estimated tax or tax, > ..., who willfully fails to pay such estimated tax or tax, > ..., shall, in addition to other penalties provided by law, > be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, > shall be fined not more than $25,000 ($100,000 in the case > of a corporation), or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or > both, together with the costs of prosecution. ...." | Sorry to take up valuable time with a silly question but I need some help here. In a discussion with a tax-protestor sort, I encountered the following opinion: willful non payment of tax owed is not a criminal offense under U.S. law, so long as the correct amount of tax was declared on the appropriate tax return. I'm pretty sure this is incorrect, but I'd like to be able to document this point. Thanks much Steve << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
