These SIDNs (Site ID Number) are assigned by the IRS for use
at volunteer sites such as VITA, TCE and AARP/TaxAide Sites.

Last year PTINs were assigned to those sites and were deemed
too confusing, so this year SIDNs will replace PTINs for
VITA, etc sites. In most cases the letter S will replace P
and the same 8 digits will be used as last year.

Does anyone know the process for obtaining a paid preparer
tax id number? I am a CPA from NY State and I am not sure if
this is a federal or state controlled application. Thanks
in advance!
