| Here's a problem I never would wish on myself or anyone else. I went home Friday night. Saturday AM I checked my computer from home (a benefit of Timbuktu) and saw that while the last tax return was ready to be sent to my e-file provider, I had never pushed the send button because of getting distracted late in the day. Just on the off chance I sent the return off, fully expecting to get back a late-filing reject notice. Lo and behold, the return was accepted by IRS. So now I wonder: is the return truly late or does the e-file acceptance mean from the IRS perspective it was timely? Since it was accepted, I believe that any changes due to late filing would have to be done with an 1040X. How would you present this to the client (who had to get a SEP contriburtion set up late on the 15th for that to be timely). I would rather the client hear this first from me than from the IRS. -- Thomas E Healy, CPA, PC 1650 38th St., Ste 202W Boulder, CO 80301 Please send email to: tom[at]tomhealycpa.com, since I block all email at my newsgroup address. phone (303) 443-1804 fax (720) 489-3772 << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
