I've always heard that part of your "reward" is being
audited yourself.

It is a percentage of the amount of tax collected. And,
unfortunately, it is not mandatory that a reward be paid
out.

See the details and instructions for IRS Form 211.

Typically, the reward (which is TAXABLE) is from 5% to 15%
of the recovery, if it is paid at all.

If you do a google search you will find it easily enough. I
looked it up last year and was surprised at how small it
was; a couple percent if I recall correctly.

I am not sure about a monentary reward. However, I believe
the reward would be to have yourself and your tax returns
looked at closely before the Service proceeds on your
report.

$2,000 is the higest amount of reward. Much depends on how
much the IRS recovers, based on your report.

Default reward for reporting tax fraud

In general, what sort of reward will the IRS pay to someone
who reports tax fraud?

Would it depend on what kind and how much evidence I can
provide?

Thanks
