I doubt that. In high school my typing speed was about 95
wpm. Later on when I used an electric typewriter it was
considerably faster.

Right you are about that. You KNOW I'm cheap.
no, not cheap..... conservative.....
no, that sounds too political......
Scotch......... (closer at happy hour).
how about "frugal"?
Heck I never even bought a fax machine.

For copies to be kept, I even use the "toner saver" feature
on the copying machine. Long distance calls? Nope, I'll
spend 37 cents postage, and keep lights turned off in all
other rooms.

the money I save and therefore pay tax on, goes to another
vacation, like tomorrow when I'm off to the North Carolina
mountains to ride trains and mountain climbing and white
water rafting.

I type faster then you. Seriously, it was 5 minutes. Are
you on dial-up? (I would think not)

Now how in the sam hill did you get it done in 5 minutes?
My experience has been all those screens that have to
process every piece of data you enter slow things down
considerably. Fastest I've done it it maybe 25 minutes.

Have THEIRS improved their software? Or bought a new
computer?

Yes, and you can do that electronically too. Yesterday, I
entered the 2848 and got a 4 page transcript from 1991, all
in about 5 minutes.

is a POA required? I just want to be able to look at things
like whether my clients made the estimated tax payments in
the amounts they're telling me they sent.

This will only help certain practioners, but this just came
out yesterday:

NEW E-SERVICE REVOLUTIONIZES TRANSCRIPT DELIVERY

Tax practitioners can now request transcripts of their
client's tax records and receive them within minutes instead
of days or weeks using a new online tool delivered through
the IRS Business Systems Modernization program. The
Transcript Delivery System (TDS) is the latest in a series
of e-services that are revolutionizing how tax practitioners
work with the Internal Revenue Service on behalf of their
clients.

Authorized tax practitioners use the new electronic tool to
order tax account and tax return transcripts and other tax
information for their business and individual clients. The
documents are returned to the practitioner's computer
through a secure online connection within minutes. Paper
requests for the same information can take days or weeks to
complete.

"This important new technology will help tax practitioners
improve their services to taxpayers and is part of our
continuing efforts to modernize the IRS," said IRS
Commissioner Mark W. Everson."

TDS is one of three premium e-services the IRS has developed
for practitioners who have successfully e-filed 100 or more
individual tax returns and registered to use e-services. The
other premium e-services, Disclosure Authorization and
Electronic Account Resolution, were released in July.

I don't know about the prompts on the toll-free number but you could
complete Form 4506-T and fax it to the appropriate location listed on the
back side of the form.

Just go to www.irs.gov and download Form 4506. Fill it out, indicating
what years you are interested in, add the required fees (for full
transcript/copy of your tax form), and mail it in.
