A lot of people think that "forming a company" is some sort
of legitimate endeavor and necessary to formalize things.

Fact is, there is no difference between you and "the
company". You ARE the company and as such can deduct any
expenses you have in earning the money on schedule C or
C-EZ.

In olden days, a company was formed under charter from the
King (of England, Scotland, etc) and consisted of two or
more individuals for some commercial endeavor. thus we had
the Hudson Bay Company among others formed and charterd by
the Sovereign, just like corporations are chartered by state
governments today.

You can deduct any expenses directly related to thise
earnings. You do not have to have a "company" to deduct
thise expenses.

You can take a deduction for any "ordinary and necessary"
business related expenses.

So.........what are the expenses you incurred while
performing your job/business?

Mileage, office supplies, dues, fees, subscriptions, meals &
entertainment, lodging, travel expenses, insurance,
advertising, ???

Take a look at the 1040, Schedule C to see some of the types
of expenses allowed.

If you have any questions about specific expense items, then
post another question.

Whatever allowable expenses you paid. You asked a very open
ended question.

You must check with your local government to determine if
there are any license or zoning requirements attached to
your doing business. Depending on your business there may
be other license requirements. Basically, as a
sole-proprietor (with no employees), all you need do is file
a Schedule C (Form 1040) "Profit or Loss from Business",
along with your tax return for the year. There may be
special categories of expense, as they apply to your
particular business. Use the standards on Schedule C and
create your own for those which are not listed.

You'll find plenty of guidance here:

http://www.irs.gov/publications/p334/index.html

Here, you'll find advice on business startups:

http://www.sba.gov/starting/faqs/

And Schedule C is here:

Hope these help 'n' Good Luck!!-

You'll be filing Schedule C (or C-EZ) with your tax return.
The schedules list these expenses.

The schedules and their instructions are on-line at:

What expenses have you had in earning that income? Most of
that will probably be deductible.
