However for 1040 and 1120 etc software, I gave up on that about 1996. Began writing my own tax software maybe 18 years ago and added bells and whistles each succeeding year. However when IRS added foghorns and cowbells and steamboat whistles, I just gave up and purchased commercial software, which as you can tell by now, is what I advise. Tax software used to cost an arm and a leg. Nowdays, it just cost half an arm (up to the elbow that is). So by all means check out UTS (Taxwise) and Drake. there's been a lot of consolidation in the industry and you may be pleasantly surprised. For my money (and I'm about as "conservative" (not cheap) as they come), the error checking and planning routines are well worth the cost.
