In the USA, checks are normally made out to an identified
individual. That individual can cash the check or deposit it
to their own bank account without problem. The named
individual can also "endorse" the check to another named
individual or to "bearer." However, many banks are skeptical
of endorsed checks and may refuse to accept them (exact
policies differ among banks and situations).

Checks are sometimes (rarely) made out to "cash" or
"bearer," thereby allowing ANYONE to cash them. However, as
noted, banks may refuse to accept them depending on the
circumstances.

If you are planning to receive payments from a USA company
for work performed, don't try to get cute and ask the
company to make the checks payable to anyone other than you.
They probably won't do. And, if they say they ~will~ do it,
I probably wouldn't trust them in the first place.

Default Per diem mode of payment

Hi All

This is more of an academic question. So pls bear with me.

In USA I would like to know what is the normal mode of payment for per
diem amounts? That is, are they paid as checks?

In India there are 2 types of checks called bearer's checks and A/C
Payee checks. The former allows anyone with the possession of the
check (the bearer) to simply walk up to the bank where the payer has
an account and get cash in exchange on presenting the check. The
latter allows the payee to deposit the check in a bank where he/she
holds an account. The bank later debits the payer's account and
credits the payee's account.

Are there such different kinds of checks in USA?

thanks
