Yes. It's $600 or more, not over $600.

Why aren't the instructors employees? Unless some of them
are instructors already, my guess would be that they are
employees of the band camp. Perhaps the judges aren't
employees.

Bill-Yes, you need to issue the 1099's.

Sure.

Get the original red copies from 1-800-TAX FORM and also get the
original red copy of form 1096 as well. And the instructions.

It sounds like these individuals are your EMPLOYEES, and
should be issued W-2 forms, with payroll taxes withheld.
Just because you are a charity does not absolve you of basic
payroll reporting.

I've become the treasurer for the High School Band Boosters
organization. We're a 501c3. We use college students as
instructors during band camp, and we also use individuals as
judges for a competition we run. Are we required to issue
1099's if we pay anyone over $600 in a year?
