Their failure to give "you" (the OP) a 1099-MISC isn't your
problem, but theirs -- and only if you are audited. In most
cases, the details of who pays you are not on your tax
return.

Files an 1040 ES Estimated Tax Payments, or wait till April
and file the 1040 SE form with the normal 1040 filings.

When you file your Form 1040 tax return you will include
Schedules C and SE.

Schedule SE calculates and gets you to pay self employment
tax, which is sort of twice your social security and
medicare taxes.

It is schedule SE that the social security folks will use to
credit your social security earnings to you.

Get an IRS form 1040, a Schedule C and Schedule SE. Figure
you business net on the C, then your SE taxes on SE and put
the net from C on line 12 of the 1040, 1/2 the SE goes on
line 28 and the full amount of Schedule SE goes on line 55
of 1040. Note that if you owe no tax on the Schedule C
net, 1040 line 54 cannot be less than zero. So you are
reporting your SE tax on line 55 and line 72. follow the
instructios on how to pay and where to pay.

P.S. You cannot just pay SE directly. ed

You would file a Schedule C to report your income and file
Schedule SE to calculate the social security tax aka
self-employment tax.

Schedule SE, attached to your form 1040. You will also have
a Schedule C, so you cannot use a 1040A or 1040EZ.

You do not.

You pay self employment tax when you file your income tax
return. You do not deal with SSA.

Schedules C and SE. If you have good records of income and
expenses, the fact that you're paid in cash shouldn't create
any problems -- unless any one customer paid you enough
($600?) that they have to give you a 1099-MISC.

As a sole proprietor (which is what you are), you do NOT
issue a W-2 form to yourself. You report your income on
Schedule C and calculate the SE taxes (social security and
medicare X 2) on Schedule SE. The information from these two
schedules then transfer to your 1040. IMHO, you need to get
more formal with your bookkeeping and keep better records to
substantiate your income and expenses.

If that were your only income, or if you owe less than
$1,000 on the bottom line of your 2004 tax return, you would
pay the tax when you file your tax return for 2004. If you
are having tax withheld in other employment, as long as you
have paid in at least 90% of what will be your current
year's tax, or 100% of your prior year's tax, there is no
penalty for underpayment. Otherwise, you would be expected
to make quarterly payments of estimated tax. You should get
Form 1040-ES (PDF), Estimated Tax for Individuals and
complete the worksheet on page 4, to help you figure your
estimated tax liability.

Schedule SE (Self-Employment) is used to calculate that tax
and is submitted with your Form 1040.

When you file your federal income tax return, you use
Schedule C (or C-EZ) to report your income and expenses, and
Schedule SE to pay Social Security taxes on your net income
from your business.

This is done through your form 1040 at the end of the year.
Your estimates are sent in By April 15th, June 15th, Sept.
15th, and January 15th. If the 15th falls on a weekend the
estimate is due on the next Monday. You may download a form
1040ES from www.irs.gov and fill it out and send it in with
your estimate. Put your Social security # and 1040 ES and
the year (2004 for this year) on the check. It would be
advisable for you to go to a tax professional at least this
first year.

This is covered by the "self employment tax" you pay when
you report your self-employment income on form 1040,
schedule C (or C-EZ), and Schedule SE each year.

Schedule C for your business (I know you say you don't have
a "company", but it's still a bsuiness.), and schedule SE
determines the amount of social security tax paid. It gets
reported to the Social Security Administration eventually.

You don't actually pay the Social Security directly. You
prepare and file Schedule C, (any other related forms and
schedules with your tax return), and Schedule SE (to compute
the Social Security and Medicare on your profits) and pay
any balance due with the return in April. You can however,
make estimated tax payments (that include the SE tax) on a
quarterly basis.

Your self-employment income and expenses go on Schedule C of
the 1040. The bottom line of Schedule C flows to Schedule
SE, where you calculate the self-employment (FICA and
Medicare) tax. Schedule SE flows to the "other taxes"
portion of the 1040, where you pay it.

You report any such income on Schedule C of your form 1040.
Any profit shown on it is carried to for SE for
self-employment income, which is calculated there and paid
along with your other income tax. IRS then forwards this
info to SS for you.
