| Here is the proper method (as communicated to me by a member who posts to various list servers that require plain text) for sending plain text using Aol 9.0. Sending mail using AOL Version 9: 1. Login to AOL and click on "Write" up in the top AOL menu bar, or "Write Mail" in the Mail Options drop down box to open a composition window. 2. Right click in the area where you will compose your email. 3. Click the last option on the bottom of the menu: "Compose as Plain Text". (The formatting options above the text box will then appear grayed out.) 4. Make sure your font is set to "Arial" and "10" and type your email. 5. When finished, send your email to the list (Do not add an automatic "Signature" to your email, this may change your settings back to html). << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

I went to the 'Settings' icon, then to 'mail settings' but there was no edit in sight. I couldn't find anywhere else to be able to add MTM's info. Any additional information you can give me so that I can get this done? As a user of AOL on several mail lists that want plain text, I share your frustration. Unfortunately, I can't find any way to get rid of the HTML coded email on AOL 9.0. There is no "preferences" item under the Edit menu. "Advanced Options" under "email settings" has nothing regarding text properties or email addresses to receive plain text. Perhaps I'm missing something. I'm running AOL 9.0 Optimized SE. | This list, for a number of reasons, is configured for plain text messages only. AOL's default is to send what are called "multipart" messages, consisting of an HTML-formatted message and a message that appears to be in plain text - but which converts certain HTML-formatted characters into their ASCII equivalent. I wind up snipping this junk. Recent versions of AOL (since version 5.0) have not allowed users to send messages in "real" plain text. AOL 9.0, however, does provide the capacity for users to designate E-mail addresses that should receive messages in plain text format. I am asking all users of AOL 9.0 to configure the mail client to send messages to MTM in plain text. To do so, you need to do the following: 1. Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences. 2. Click Advanced Options. 3. Click Add. 4. Type misc.taxes.moderted as the email address for which you want all messages to be sent in plain text. 5. Click OK. As always, thank you for your cooperation.
