Don't they want to know how much you paid in calendar year
2003? Those amounts are already fixed, they can't be
changed. The amounts you pay in 2004 will figure in your
taxes filed next year.

Default Italy and US taxes

I am a US citizen, resident in Milan for more than 183 days
of 2003, making me a "resident" in Italy, but I do not meet
the conditions for "bonified resident" status. I earned
salary and interest income in the US and in Italy, and I am
nearly 100% certain that I need to file both US and Italian
taxes.

In order to file my Italian taxes, I need to know how much I
paid to the US in taxes (they are deductable, so says my tax
consultant). In order to file my US taxes, I need to know
how much I paid to Italy (also deductable, so say the US
documents that I have read). This loop seems impossible to
break.

Currently, the only numbers I have are the amount that I
have already paid to the US (a number which is likely too
high and I expect to receive a partial refund) and the
amount that I have paid to Italy (a number which is likely
too low).

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
