So, send the appropriate copies to the address indicated.
Obviously, you forgot to attach them to your return. Not a
major deal, just do it.

NO, you cannot e-file a "fresh" return - it will be rejected
if a paper return has already been filed. Just mail the
documents requested and quit making such a big deal out of
it.

File an amended return, on paper, on form 1040X. Attach
corrected versions of the forms that you are changing (e.g.
Schedule A).

Yes

No idea, depends on your situation. It would be better than
sitting around stewing about it.

Default Received my return with "Request for missing information" - can I e-file now?

Hi -
I received a "request for missing information" [a red card]
with all my tax documents, including W2. The card says I
should respond within 30 days.

1. Can I e-file now? If I do, will they be able to figure
out that I had filed earlier (on time), and the e-file is a
continuance of that. If it is considered a fresh-return, I'd
be subject to penalty (since it is late for a fresh return)

2. Can I make a correction in addition to the point they
have outlined? They have asked for a missing form, but I
realized I had overstated my state tax exemption.

3. Can I walk into an IRS office and ask for help on tax
questions? Will it expedite refunds?

Thanks in advance! I am new to the world of US taxes :-)
