My thoughts exactly, Art.

I thought only the copy that went to the IRS had to be
signed by the paid preparer. If this is a copy given to
the client, and later made public, it would not need the
paid provider information, right?

Considering his involvement with oil, that may very well be
where the "work" of preparing lies, but if that were 100% of
the fee above the line, then I agree; he may need
adjustment. :-)

Bush's return doesn't have a paid preparer. are we to assume
that the trust company that prepared it is working for free?

Perhaps that amount was attributable only to his Schedule C
income. Perhaps he paid no personal tax prep fees, or he
chose not to deduct them, or his preparer missed them. Or
maybe he lost his receipt.

What I'm interested in are the many "Statements" that are
omitted from the file.

You and Brian Collie have come the closest. Cheney's tax
prep fees are split between Sch E and Sch C.

I've always left some on Sch A because even without the
activities on Schedules C & E the client still would have to
get his/her tax return done. I'm surprised to see the
Cheneys' preparers take such an agresive stance since they
would have to know that his return would become public.

Maybe he prepared his own tax return in 2002?

I'm surprised that no one else noticed that Cheney's tax
prep fees were deducted on Schedule C instead of Schedule A.

Why would there be for GWB?

He lives in TX, so no state income tax.

He lives in public housing in DC, so no real estate tax there.

It wouldn't surprise me that during a presidency, his
private residence in TX gets classified as either
"government property" (so no property tax) or that the U.S.
government is required to pick up the bill for maintaining
his residence while in office (as part of the WH budget), so
he didn't pay the tax; we did.

As long as we're talking about the highest office, anyone
else catch the article in "Tax Practice" (or any other Tax
Analysts' publication) about Kerry's ~$12K error on the sale
of artwork? Didn't Kerry write the section about
COLLECTIBLES remaining at 28% rate?

I was able to get to the Schedule A on the Presidents' 03
return after I did a save as of the PDF. It seems that the
server is slooow.

Every other president and first lady whose tax return is on
that site. Except those who didn't have the option (it seems
to have been added between 1970 and 1977).

Just guessing. No income tax for Texas residents. RE taxes
being paid by blind trust that holds their property?

Approximately 2% of my clients do so.

(In actuality, that statistic represent ONE on my client
list of around fifty. <g> )

They both "live" in non-tax states.

Look at Cheney's Schedule A.

Neither do I nor the vast majority of my clients. I do not
wish to fund the Green Party.

They have three years to amend to designate the $3.

But from looking at a 1040X, once they elect to designate
the $3 to the fund, they cannot amend to not designate it.
