I use Lacerte pay per return and have been very happy with it.

Out of curiosity, how does it handle split year cities? TP
lives 5 months in Cincinnati and 7 months in Columbus and
has rental property for 8 months in Dayton?

Actually, they DO support PY/NR returns in SOME states. But,
I agree, their coverage is NOT complete across the board.
Similarly, it appears that they don't support "ES" vouchers
(or equivalent) in all states.

Gee you must use Pro-Series too! I do pay per return and it
cost a bunch but I love the software. Compatibility with
TurboTax is important for the basket case people who bring
in their effort at completing the return. I also use
TurboTax for kids and "what ifs". I like the Ohio local
municipality returns, particularly Cincinnati and the Ohio
MFS software. I am a big fan of forms based software.

I started using TaxAct this year. Quite satisfied.
Preparer's edition $99 (that's not a typo!). All States was
an additional $51.80. ]

My only complaint so far has been that you cannot do
Nonresident or partial year resident returns for the
states.

Hopefully, TaxAct will correct this for 2004 filings.

Default Question for Preparers

My current software provider is getting really expensive.
Can anyone suggest a reasonable software provider for a
small (150-200 returns) practice? Many thanks
