Anyone out there > use Ultra Tax or can tell me anything about it? Relief was acquired by Ultra Tax. I decided I would use UT for the Aug 15 extensions to get to know it. But I got too busy and stuck with Tax Relief for those returns. So not until this past tax season did I truly immerse myself in UT. It was an adjustment. However, five months later, I can tell you that UT has a very powerful, smooth running engine. Yet, it's user interface style is "clunky" compared to Tax Relief. I have offered several suggestions in the process of submitting my user survey following tax season, so I hope their product development team is as responsive as their technical support and sales staffs have been. I plan to stick with Ultra Tax. I'd suggest giving it a shot anyway. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

Two views: Input Screen and Forms view, with easy switching between them. It's almost entirely input screen oriented, and is 90+% accurate in getting you from a Form line to an Input Screen entry area. You can override a line on a form if you really really want to, but I have not found a need to do that for a couple of years now, at least for the federal & Ohio. It pro formas well between years, and uses a common real time data base to pick up Names/addresses, etc from SSNs/EINs. Fairly good diagnostics, though sometimes too much hand holding on the diagnostics ("TP receiving refund but no Bank Routing Number entered" -- sheesh.) Unless you are in Ohio, you would not care that the Ohio Generic Cities software gags on part-year city residents. __ Art Kamlet ArtKamlet [at] AOL.com Columbus OH K2PZH << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

It is powerful enough that you need not worry about outgrowing it. Like Exactax, it is input based rather than forms based. Sure there are cheaper programs. For me it is an easy decision to pay a few dollars more for a program that helps you complete a tax return quicker and more accurately. The customer service has been great too.
