IRS operates in a manner called "FIFO".> taxes and in the middle of these years I will owe. all other > years I am due a refund. (surprised, anyone?) that means first come, first served. So if they process 2002 return first before recording 2000 return, you'll get the 1900. As long as there is no carryover from 2001 to 2002, don't> 2002 before they recieve 2001? worry about it. | How does the IRS handle this situation. I am filing back taxes and in the middle of these years I will owe. all other years I am due a refund. What will happen if they recieve 2002 before they process 2001? or will they just handle each one as they come in? ok, I filed all my back taxes, On April 15th. So I can get an accurate answer to my question as follows is what I sent in this year. I sent them in diffrent envelopes. For the tax year 1999 I had to do a 1040x. they originally owed me a refund. Then they sent a letter saying my daughters ssn and name did not match. So they said I owed them 500.00 instead of me getting a refund of 1300.00. This year I sent in the 1040x for tax year 1999 with the correct info. I know it is to late for a refund however I am hoping they will wash off the debt. for the tax year 2000, I will owe 437.00 for the tax year 2001. they will owe me 4745.00 for the tax year 2002, they will owe me 1900.00 for the tax year 2003, they will owe me 1337.00 My main question is what happens if they receive tax year 2002 before they recieve 2001? << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
