You will need to ask TurboTax this question. It is a> it may be because my losses are showing as a -number.... > ie.... - 125.00 > rather than (125.00) > My schedule D generator exported the losses using a minus > sign.......will a change to parenthesis fix the problem? software ? not a tax ? The minus signs cannot be causing the errors, because that's> it may be because my losses are showing as a -number.... > ie.... - 125.00 > rather than (125.00) > My schedule D generator exported the losses using a minus > sign.......will a change to parenthesis fix the problem? what TurboTax normally uses. It does not use parentheses. What does the error message say? You do not normally enter the amount of a loss into TurboTax. You enter the sales price and basis, and TurboTax calculates the loss (or gain). TurboTax displays losses with a minus sign, not parentheses. Negative numbers have to be entered with a minus sign. TurboTax will not allow you to enter parentheses where a number is required. What is your "schedule D generator"? Is that some third-party software that is supposed to somehow feed Schedule D entries to TurboTax? If you think that this "generator" is passing bad data to TurboTax, you should contact the company that makes the software. Do they guarantee compatibility with TurboTax? Or is the generator something you wrote yourself? But, as I said, the minus sign is the correct format, so that is not the problem. You do not want parentheses. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

Why are you exporting these fields at all? -- Barry Margolin, barmar[at]alum.mit.edu Arlington, MA << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
