I treat it like this: if it's something tangible that you
buy and then consume over time, like printer cartridges,
it's supplies (unless it's materials or inventory).
Something like an air conditioner or furniture, though, is
a fixed asset, and you have to capitalize it and depreciate
it. Things like software and books can be expensed if they're
of small value or good for only a year (like much tax
software, or almanacs).

Air conditioner, furniture, expensive books and expensive
software has to be capitalized and depreciated. The rest can
be supplies expense for which you get a tax deduction.

Default The difference between "Office Supplies" and "Office Deductions"

What is the difference between a "Supply Expense" and a
"Deduction".

I am self-employed. I've got to place these items
somewhere: printer cartridges, office air conditioner,
books, furniture, basic supplies, software...

I'm not sure where to list them.
