Employers are required only to provide their employees with
their current year Form W-2 at no charge by January 31.
Prior year Forms W-2 can be obtained free of charge from
the IRS. Most IRS walk-in offices are able to print them
out and hand them to you across the counter. IRS maintains
6 years of Forms W-2 in its information returns database.
Currently, years 1997 through 2002 are available. In July
of this year, 1997 will be dropped and 2003 added. The one
drawback of copies furnished by IRS is that they contain no
state wage information.

Yes indeed.
Unless of course, they never made it available to you in the
first place.

But that's a horse of another color. (grin. with regards
to the fellow who's American Express card was purloined.)

After they have given you an original, I expect they are
charging for their time.

Yes. (If the old ones were incorrect, then probably
not, but if you just lost them....)
