- Say yes. It should add the amount from the 1099 misc (your
ordinary ESPP income) to the cost basis of the stock.

- When you put in the 1099-misc, that should end up on Line
7 if TT handles it correctly and you answer the questions
correctly. I don't have TT so I don't know what Q's it will
ask about the 1099misc.

This article says it goes on line 7.

This article says it must be reported as wages, aka line 7.

Default ESPP Stock Sale reported on 1099-Misc

I` am using Turbotax for doing my taxes. I have stocks from my ex-employer
which I received through the ESPP program. I sold these last year and
received the 1099-MISC form from them. There is no W-2 since I was not
employed with them through the whole year of 2002. When I entered the data
in Turbotax, I notice that I am being taxed twice on the same amount from
the 1099MISC - the second time from the ESPP portion of the Turbotax
interview where I said NO to the question about whether the amount was
reported in my W2. My questions are

1. Can I say yes to that question since the 1099MISC is
being taxed as regular wages?

2. By including the 1099MISC, I am also paying the SS and
medicare - should I be paying this from ESPP sales?

3. Is the 1099MISC the same as the W2 for employees who do
not receive any W2?

Please note that I am unemployed not a contractor.

Thanks.

Amon
