I would vote for selling expense or increase to basis
(either of which will likely work out the same).

Default Payment to Buyer to cancel sale

I have an LLC that made a payment of 15,000 to a buyer for
him to end the deal because of problems we were having. We
later sold that to another buyer and are recognizing gain on
the sale. Is the payment we made deducitble as an operating
expense or as part of a selling expense or perhaps an
increase in basis?
