Technically you can attach a statement to the return with> under dual status this year, i.e. file married separately. > My questions are: > 1. But in my recent experience these returns get rejected. snip Drew Edmundson, CPA (NC) << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| My wife and I moved to the US in May 2003. So we are filing under dual status this year, i.e. file married separately. My questions are: 1. Prior to moving to US, I do not have any US sourced income nor income effectively connected to a US trade or business. Do I still need to file a 1040NR (dual status statement) even though I have nothing to report? 2. My wife worked for 1 day in 2003 and has a a W2 of $108. She has a SSN. Can I claim exemption for her on my return? Thanks very much for your help.
