| Another amended return question: I helped an elderly lady in our church file her taxes. Taxable income was so low that there was nothing owed, federal or state -- which was good because nothing had been withheld. Now the brokerage holding her modest investment account has issued a corrected 1099 that shows about $5 less in taxable dividends but the same overall amount of dividends. I checked and (obviously, I suppose) she still owes nothing, federal or state. The question is: Should I help her file an amended return? That is, is there some threshhold amount below which she's legally not required to file the amended return? If so, please cite something I can print and take to her . . . unless I can find some clearly stated rule that exempts her, she'll want to file an amended return. Thanks for your help, kwali << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |
