There is no statute of limitation on an unfiled return.
However, if you file your returns for the past 6 years IRS
will deem you to be compliant with your filing obligaions.
Currently, years 1999 and prior are refund statute-barred.
The 3-year refund statute of limitations for 2000 will lapse
on April 15, 2004 (the April 15, 2001 due date plus three
years). Prepare your 2000 return immediately and if you're
due a refund, make sure it's postmarked no later than April
15, 2004. Don't forget to sign your returns, preferably in
blue ink.

Prepare each year's return, sign it in blue ink, and mail it
in a separate envelope to your IRS processing center. IRS
may or may not freeze the refunds. You should concern
yourself only with getting them filed.

Default Back taxes,,,way back to 97

I have already recieved my w-2 info from the IRS. However,
how far back will they allow me to go? Also If I am due a
refund for some years and owe for the others will they wait
till all my taxes are brought current or will they issue a
refund as they come in?
