You know what? I have no idea, but let me just suggest a
possible course of action. If there is money owed, do
nothing and let the IRS make a claim against the estate if
it wants to. If there is a refund, get on about how to file
a desceased person's claim (I believe someone in misc.taxes
just recently did that, See "Decendant income tax refund
check," "The 1310 federal tax form requires I follow the
will.") and extend filing if necessary. I would guess it is
since dead people rarely file their taxes.

It's an interesting topic.

He's close enough to get an automatic extension, which
doesn't even require a signature. See Form 4868.

Default Death

Friends mother just died and her return was not done. He is
not sure he has all her 1099's etc (no w-2's involved).
Since date is getting close, what advice should I pass on to
him? Certainly can't sign for her and not sure if she has
will although he is only child with one distant cousin.
