If you can't get signatures from clients before closing on the 15th, then by all means extend. But be sure to alert clients that if no signed forms, then the returns are not filed. I will probably send my last few returns that morning, and check for acks that evening before I close at 5. And that will probably wind it up. In case of a reject (heaven forbid!) I have until the 20th to correct and resend. You have same amount of time. I'm sure next year you'll go with the PIN forms. In fact, can you not do that even this week? I think you can. After April 15th, get in touch, and we'll talk. I've been doing this since 1989. Same here. We spend all day of the 15th going to the taxing> (when the kids got out of school) and take several days off > to recuperate. My clients knew that they had to either get > their stuff before then, or they would be on extension. authorities and getting things stamped, and making sure things don't fall through the cracks, then go do extensions at "Tax Trot" (April 15th VITA site sponsored by the local chapter of the state CPA society). - quote - > how do you handle the returns you submit on April 15th.
We don't e-file anyone on the 15th, if we can help it. Mypersonal preference would be to get the last return delivered by the 12th, but I'm not sure that will happen. In years past, I've come in for a few minutes on the 17th to check acks. I believe the last day to re-file if rejected is the 20th, so if you come in on the 19th and see that all your returns have bounced, you've still got 2 days to fix them. (I don't know about you, but about the only things my returns bounce for are issues with the wife's name and kids who claim themselves.) - quote - > chose to use Form 8453 this year).
Switch to paperless for the last two weeks, if you don'twant to mail in the 8453s. Good practice for next year. - quote - > I'm also not sure how to handle clients who give me their

After a few seasons efiling, you'll grow to love it andnever want to go back. Losing the 8453 will be a big help, too. | Hi everybody. This is my first year efiling, and I am trying to work out the logistics of doing the final couple of days with efiling. In the past, I would close the office around 3pm on 4/15 (when the kids got out of school) and take several days off to recuperate. My clients knew that they had to either get their stuff before then, or they would be on extension. I'm not sure how to work it with efiling and would like some input from other preparers about how they do things. And how do you handle the returns you submit on April 15th. Do you have a some time to get it finalized like getting the acceptance from the IRS/FTB and mailing in the forms?? (I didn't know better and chose to use Form 8453 this year). I'm also not sure how to handle clients who give me their signed forms after I have already closed. Maybe I should just do extensions for everybody that I don't have a signed form from at the time I close my office for the day?? BTW, have I mentioned here, how much I HATE efiling?? It is such a PITA having to "handle" everything so many times. I like the old way, where once I sent off the package to the client, I was DONE with it. Yes, I was kicking and screaming all the way being dragged into efiling and I'm still kicking and screaming.
