However, if he just hold of the W2 in April, very possible he had no knowledge of lack of withholding for any taxes, since many employers do not afford the employees the luxury of stubs showing periodic gross, withholdings, etc. and no law says they have to. federal law, that is. If it was a W-2 and you don't work for a school or some other organization where you don't have to pay the tax, the employer has a problem and so do you. You owe your half and the employer owes the same amount. If you got a 1099MISC, you are self-employed and owe both sides, about 15%. File a schedule C.
