He didn't want to be bothered with doing Mama's 1040..for
the few months of 2004....if he knew how to in the first
place.

You didn't say when the mother died, but I think I read
between the lines and guess it is early this year.

What would really be funny if mother died in 2003 and lawyer
referred to doing her final 2004 1040 return.

Well, if she died in 2004, I suppose he could be. I'm just
curious why the lawyer is sending financial information to
you rather than the other way around. That's the part that
doesn't make sense to me.

I do love lawyers. A client just called to get an
appointment after tax season to finish up the tax work for
her deceased mother. (We'll do mother's 2003 along with
hers.) The lawyer said he'd have all the figures to finish
up the estate and her accountant "could easily do mother's
final 2004 return". . (I think I'll ask him to call the IRS
and ask for 2004 forms in May........and ask California what
their tax rates will be for 2004!)
