It might qualify as an Employee Business Expense, but when
you reduce it by 2% of AGI, the deduction would probably end
up as zero unless you have other Miscellaneous Deductions.

Also, even if you do have other deductions, do they exceed
the standard deduction?

About the only people who get any benefit from Misc
Deductions are salesmen who travel out of town a lot.

Default PC as Tax Deduction?

I work in the Computer Support / IT field (not self
employed) & have a question about possible deductions for
2004. Would I be allowed to deduct the cost of a computer
for my home if it were used for self training and evaluation
purposes? (i.e. the PC would be loaded with both Unix &
Windows 2003 Server for labs & simulations that are included
in books & online training I use). On a similar note, is it
safe to assume that all online training, books &
certification testing expenses related to my career could be
fully deducted?
