A better idea, IMHO, would be to file a printout instead of
(or in addition to) the CD. CD-ROMs do go bad. Low-tech
paper kept in a vault is unlikely to become unreadable in
your lifetime.

I seem to remember reading in some tax publication that a
paper copy of the tax return must be kept, and that an
electronic copy does not suffice. Is this true?

Thanks Victor. A great idea I'll start doing this year.

And, thanks Barney. I appreciate the links!

I don't know how to get the old return - others will have
the answer. However, for the future, put a copy of the PDF
file on CD-ROM and put that in your safe deposit box.

If you want an actual photocopy of the return you filed, you
need to complete Form 4506 and send it to IRS along with a
check for $39. If a transcript will suffice, use Form
4506-T. There is no charge for a transcript.

Default I lost my copy of my 2002 taxes

I had saved my Turbo Tax generated PDF file and didn't print
a copy for my records. I simply stored the file as my
records.

Long story short... all copies of the file were lost.

Is there anyway to get a copy of what I filed? Maybe form
the IRS somehow???
