California will reject an e-file if the CA EIN does not
match. Also, they hold up a refund if they cannot match
withholdings claimed with what is in their records as being
paid.

Won't affect a darned thing. Go ahead and file your returns
and enjoy your refunds.

It shouldn't, but you probably can't e-file without the
state number.

If the wages and taxes are correct, go ahead and file the
returns.

If your paper filing there is no issue. If you are
e-filing, the software should accept any string of numbers
and you won't get a reject. As long as the right state was
paid, you will not get a mismatch on taxes withheld.

Default State employer ID number - effect on Federal return

For some reason my idiot employer has put zeroes on my W2 in
the box marked State Employer ID number. I realize this
could affect my state return. Does it affect my Federal
return?

I suspect my employer may need to supply me with a new W2.
If that is the case, does it matter if I file my federal
return based on the numbers in the current W2 - which match
up properly to my YTD numbers on my payslips?

Thanks!
