However; maybe it's the other way around, and box three

Box 1 probably has already been reduced by the amount in Box
12A.

Yes, it does, however you can't tell from the W-2 alone
whether Box 1 is wrong or Boxes 3 and 5 are wrong. His last
paystub should settle the issue, and then he can advise the
employer that he needs a corrected W-2.

My brother in law received a W2 with the same amount in Box
1 and Box 3, however he had a salary reduction plan, Code S
in box 12A of $1175. Shouldn't that reduce the amount in box
1 by same amount like a code d (401K) does?

It effects his EIC if doesn't reduce, any thoughts?
