Can't be more than those 6 x 9 envelopes that we use!
Yikes. Those things are expensive, and we usually don't
need but <50 and you have to buy these monster boxes of
them.

Serious answer: Staples are fine.

Humorous answer: Duct tape - and make certain that all the
relevant entries on the W-2 are COVERED with the tape. :-)

Do as everyone is saying for attaching forms.

One thing you may not know as a first-time filer: save
complete copies for yourself! That way, if they do lose one
attachment or there is ever a question (even from you, 3 or
4 years from now) as to how you filed something, you will
have the records. Keep for 7 years.

Please, please do *not* use duct tape tape!

Staple W-2's to front page; paper clip check to payment
voucher.

Consider mailing in a 9" x 12" envelope so nothing will have
to be folded.

There are sequence numbers in the right upper hand corner.
Use these to sequence your return, stapling them all
together in the left upper corner.

You can staple the whole package. Just don't staple the
check. Send it loose with your SS# on it and the words "2003
Form 1040."

Staple the top and the bottom of the forms W-2 to the top
page of the form 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ.

I think you are making much ado about nothing. Most of us
use staples (small s).

I've been stapling the W-2s (and 1099s, if required) where
specified. For the Federal return, it's clear the check and
1040-V are supposed to be loose.

Staple them for the Federal. Check your state instructions.
Kansas wants them loose in the envelope.

Staple the W-2 to the front of the 1040 on the left side,
roughly where it says "Attach Forms W-2 and W-2G here."
Attach the 1099 in the same place, together with the W-2,
only if it shows tax withheld. Most 1099s do not show tax
withheld, and therefore do not have to be sent with your
return.

Put the schedules and any other forms (the full-size pages)
in the proper order and staple them all together. One staple
in the upper left corner will do it.

Default attaching additional forms

This is my first time filing my own taxes, and I have a very
simple question--how does one "attach" additional forms (W2,
1099, ScheduleXYZ, etc) to a 1040? Staple? Paper clip?
Loose in the envelope? Duct tape? I know it's recommended
to e-file, but I am going the old-fashioned paper route this
year.

I see how to order the attachments, but I think I am missing
how exactly to attach them. I know, it probably doesn't
make any difference at all--but I just wanted to find out
for sure.

Thanks in advance!
