You do not report his income. If he is your dependent you
claim him as such on your return. He needs to file his own
return to get a refund of the $84 in income tax. He should
not claim himself on his return if he is your dependent.

DO NOT claim his income on your form.
He files an EZ, gets his withholding back AND DOES NOT CLAIM
HIMSELF. (There's a place to check on the EZ form, "being
claimed as a dependent on another's taxes". ) YOU claim
him.

His standard deduction is the $1553 of earned income - which
wipes out his income and leaves him zero taxable.

He should file a 1040EZ to get his federal withholding back.
Get him to do it, he is getting the refund. The SS and
Medicare are long gone. Since he is 14 or older, you have
no obligation to claim his income. As long as you provided
more than 50% of his support, you should be able to claim
his exemption.

Default 17 y/o son made $1553 how to file?

My 17 year old son who is a full time student made $1553
delivering pizza. On the W-2 he paid $84.00 in Federal
taxes, $96.00 in Social Security taxes and $23 in Medicare
tax withheld. Do I claim him and not his income and have him
fill out an EZ1040 or should I include his income on my 1040
Long form?

Thanks
