My guess is that about half my clients would object to the
fact that I would be transmitting their data via a third
party processor, while the other half would object to the
fact that I would be adding $40 bucks to their bill for the
"privilege." Some clients, of course, might object on BOTH
counts. <g

I have had a 100% objection in past years, and so far, it's
still 100%. My clients do not trust "the government" - and
that goes for the State of CA too. For the others, some
would rather see the IRS (and the state) spend the money on
having to re-type instead of on the war, so it's a political
statement for them. [The war is "discretionary" while
transcribing a tax return really isn't.]

I'm putting my FTB 8454 file right next to my IRS form 8867
file. :-)

I don't understand the objections. We have had a couple of
hundred clients so far and not one single objection to
efiling.

I like it! Drown 'em in paper!

I plan on attaching (despite the "do not attach"
instruction) the waiver to every paper-filed return I do
this year - just as a protest against the law.

Although I got an ERO number last year, NONE of my clients
wanted e-file and all specifically asked for paper when I
told them that I could e-file (where the return could be - I
have some that don't qualify for e-file at the federal
level).

So far my office isn't finding it a hardship at all. So far
we haven't done a single paper return nor have we had a
request for one.

We WILL do a paper NY NR for a CO resident and maybe do a
paper WA resident, but we don't expect any problems and even
our favorite paranoid is probably going to be filing
electronically.

I have not heard of any organized groups. Nor do I know
whether the California CPA Society, EA Society or NATP
Chapter have voiced an opinion on this matter. Has anyone
out there heard anything?

Perhaps the best approach at this time is "civil
disobedience." Unless or until the state actually tries to
fine or penalize someone, this might not be worth getting a
gut ache over.

Default CA E-File Mandate - Assembly Bill 1756

Are there any groups that are taking action to repeal or
change the 2004 new California law that forces taxpayers to
E-File or sign a form that sits in the preparer's file?
This is a hardship to the taxpayer and the tax
prepaer/business. If there is no group, how can one get
started as a grass roots movement against California
Assembly Bill 1756?
