None of the above. I did have losses on two small
businesses; Sched. C, and sold some furniture at a loss
reported on Sched. D, because I moved. This could have been
the reason, even though Tax Act found no errors when I ran
the audit. It could have been in depreciation, or reporting
gain or loss of the sale of some of the business property.
Otherwise, I just had 1099-R income and I did not itemize
last year or this year.

Thanks for the information; I think I will ask them about it.

Your refund may have been reduced for a variety of reasons.
Do you have any outstanding federal debts, such as student
loans? Do you owe child support? What about delinquent
federal or state taxes? Did you receive an advance child
tax credit refund last summer that you forgot to account
properly for on this year's tax return?

The only way to find out with certainty is to contact the
IRS. IRS will not retributively reduce your refund further
because you contacted them. IRS customer service employees
literally respond to millions of refund inquiries each year.
Answers to refund inquiries might the topic they most often
get right.

You can contact IRS toll-free at (800) 829-1040 or you visit
them in person at your local IRS walk-in office.

Default refund

I e-filed my return using Tax-Act, and received a refund on
Jan. 30th. The only problem is that the refund I received
is $360 less than I claimed on my return. So far, no
explanation of what errors they found in my return, or what
deductions they disallowed. I ran the alerts with Tax-Act
and my return passed all of them.

I did receive a notice from Tax-Act to call the IRS before I
got the refund, but when I spoke with an agent, she just
asked me about my change of address; no mention of any
errors in my return.

I think I should receive some explanation, but have not
contacted them yet. I received $1906 refund so am afraid it
could be reduced further if I ask any questions.
