A company can get an extension to send out 1099s. See
GEN-11 of the 1099-MISC instructions.

They can do that as long as they want to pay the penalty
(per DOCUMENT).

Some 1099 DIVs that can't properly classify dividends by
1/31 (e.g. mutual funds investing in REITs) are granted
extensions to distribute them to shareholders.

My broker usually sends a second 1099 in late February (not
an amendment since they hadn't yet filed with the IRS) which
picks up reported errors and items such as the one described
above.

There is no exception. Insist to them that you get it now
or you will call IRS. It is a fact, though, that you need
not attach this form to your tax returns unless money has
been withheld from it for tax purposes. If you know the
amount, you can just report that on your return.

Default No 1099....yet

I just received an memo from my company that stated that
they weren't going to send out our 1099's 'til the end of
Feb. Is this possible? I thought all tax stuff had to be
out my the end of January. is there an exception that I'm
not aware of? Thx.
