I seem to remember 8453's required for all with signing with POA's, e.g. military wives with husbands over the water. What about those annoying "shareholder Statement Pursuant to> cannot figure a scenario where I would be forced to use the > 8453 now. I'll bet the form will be gone by next year. Treasury Regulation Section 1.355-5(b)" statements that are supposed to be included with returns for shareholders that received spinoff shares. What is everyone doing with them? They are supposed to be attached to the return but lots of people I have talked to just seem to keep them on file and never send them in. The IRS has virtually eliminated the need for 8453 forms with the elimination of prior year AGI on the 8879. Why waste time and postage? Been racking my brain and I cannot figure a scenario where I would be forced to use the 8453 now. I'll bet the form will be gone by next year. | When 8453 vs. PIN is discussed, some of the EROs who are using PINs say they still have the clients sign an 8453 "just in case" something goes wrong. Last year was my first year using PINs, I had them sign both forms, and nothing went wrong. This year, using the Practitioner PIN where you don't even need the previous AGI or birthdays, it seems that the chances of "something going wrong" are slim if not zero.
