Question #2: You are a resident alien of the US for tax purposes. As such, you are taxed on your worldwide income. You would convert Indian Rupees to US Dollars using any reasonable method of foreign exchange that does not distort your income. If you had to pay tax to India on that income, see the instructions in the tax booklet for the foreign tax credit. -- Alan http://taxtopics.net << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| I am a non-resident alien working in the US on a L-1 Visa. I have following questions regarding filling my returns and was wondering if someone from the group could help. 1. My employer is based in New York state and so is my job position but I moved to Richmond, VA before Jan-01-2003 for personal reasons. As my job is still in New York (even though I work from here) my employer & ADP continued to deduct NY states taxes from my pay check but my W2 has a Richmond,VA address on it. So my question is for which state should I be filling the return. New York or Virginia. If I need to file for both then will I get my money back from New York in order to pay Virginia Taxes? Also when I go to file New York state return it asks for a New York address how can that be handled. 2. My second question is that I have some other sources of income in my home country. As per my tax advisor there based on the treaty between India and US the income earned in India should also be offered for taxation (federal only) in US. How can I do that? What proofs do I need for that income and what forms do I need to fill. Thanx a lot for the help in advance.
