Clarification: In California, if you go to traffic school> > Is the cost of traffic school tax deductible? > No. Neither would be the fine you would have had to pay if > you hadn't gone to traffic school. for a ticket, you pay the fine plus $48(?) to the city, and an additional fee to the school. The ticket is still on your record, but sealed. In some cases it also technically REDUCES your insurance rates, as it counts as a "Safe Driving class". (I've never tried that, but you CAN go to traffic school without a ticket to be sealed, so I suppose insurance doesn't need to know why you went?!) If the OP is referring to the fees paid to the school, I dunno. << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

I can't imagine why it would be deductible either.> anything that references it. I doubt it is, but I thought > it was worth a check. Any help would be greatly > appreciated. For it to be deductible as a business expense, it has to be an "ordinary and necessary" expense for that business. Costs incured to learn a new trade (truck driving school) would not be deductible either. Otherwise, I think you can't claim it. Paul A.
