Oklahoma wants their 1099s, although they'd really rather
have the same information on the Oklahoma equivalent. I
suspect that they end up in the same place as the copy of
the W-2 that goes with the tax return (loose in the envelope
please; makes it easier to toss^H^H^H^Hfile them).

I recall preparing a nominee 1099-INT for California, and
transmitting it on a form 596. This was sometime between
1980 and 1987. I believe the state instructions for the
596 now say that if you file paper 1096/1099s to Ogden, you
don't need to file with California.

I see no reason for those, unless your company has offices
in any of those 15 states. then, I would suggest checking
with particular states for their requirements.

Although I should note that I've never, ever, prepared any
1099's for any states.

Default 1099-Misc Copy 1 and Copy 2?

I'm responsible for issuing our company's 1099-Misc forms
this year. I know I have to print copies A, B and C. Are
Copies 1 and 2 necessary?

In case it matters: Our company is located in Washington,
DC, and we're sending 1099-Misc forms to people in about
fifteen states. We haven't withheld state tax from any of
the recipients. We are reporting amounts in only Boxes 1
(rents), 2 (royalties), and 7 (nonemployee compensation).

Thanks for your help.
