During "prime" continuing exactly bring in large crowds. Last year the AICPA held the Advanced Estate Planning Conference in Scottsdale during the summer--but was only because their original location (Toronto) ended up with this little problem with SARS and by the time they had to relocate there weren't many places available that could take that sized crowd--but the Princess Resort in Scottsdale was sitting pretty much empty <grin> . Of course, you'll likely point out that Toronto was outside the U.S., so it served them right...<grin -- Ed Zollars, CPA Phoenix, Arizona << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

Well, "kudos" to them! (Notwithstanding the fact that> sponsored any "out of state" continuing education programs > that I can recall, though I believe they used to do so. organizations from coast to coast ALSO like to hold their functions in Arizona.) <g When I was on the board of the Washington Society (~many~ years ago...) I would frequently go on a rant about out of state meetings. The policy at that time was that the annual meeting had to be held INSIDE the state at least every other year. However, they counted border cities like Portland, OR, Vancouver, BC, and Coeur D'Alene, ID as "inside" for this purpose. [!!!] Sounds like auditors that can be "bought," doesn't it... You know, every now and then CPAs need to go to their state legislatures and "beg" for something. Seems like being able to point out that we always spend our money INSIDE the state would be a nice touch. But, I was rarely able to get this point across when I was actively involved with said organizations. Well, in that case, you just have the NAEA sponsor it--since> Why not North or South Dakota?!! Hawaii is part of the United States (I presume there are EAs there), then your objection goes away... By the way, don't forget that the IRS turns up in vacation spots for some of their conferences as well. As I recall, they tend to use Las Vegas a lot more than Ogden, Utah out here <grin> . That said, recently the Arizona Society of CPAs hasn't sponsored any "out of state" continuing education programs that I can recall, though I believe they used to do so. -- Ed Zollars, CPA Phoenix, Arizona << -------------------------------------------------> << The Charter and the Guidelines for submitting > << messages to this newsgroup are at www.asktax.org > << -------------------------------------------------> |

| Hope this is OK to post. Don't know if any of you are considering going to CSEA's Super Seminar in Hawaii (June 9-11) but Aloha Airlines is having a GREAT airfare sale that's good for travel until June 15. It's $139 each direction, which is about 1/2 of what the fare has been recently. Aloha flies from Oakland, Orange County, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Reno, and Sacramento. Sale ends Feb 17.
