If paid in 2003, they are only deductible in 2003.

Default Real Estate taxes paid in next calendar year

Unfortunately, I think I know the answer to this one, but...

I purchased a home in 2002. By the time all the updated and
supplemental tax bills made their way to me, I ended up
paying them in Jan 2003. Because of this lost deduction in
2002, I owed money last year (if they had been paid in 2002,
I would have been even). Adding insult to injury, this year
I am stuck with AMT because my deductions are too high
(approx amount = RE tax overflow from 2002). Is there any
way I can apply the 2002 taxes back to 2002 and re-file?

thanks in advance,

Not too tax-saavy
